According to the most recent Canadian Cardiology Society guidelines, the following people should be assessed for cardiovascular risk factors.

All men and women over 40, as well as people of all ages meeting the following criteria:

  • Postmenopausal woman
  • Clinical signs of atherosclerosis
  • Abdominal aortic aneurism
  • Diabetes
  • High blood pressure
  • Active tobacco use
  • Clinical manifestations of dyslipidemia (xanthoma, xanthelasma, corneal arcus)
  • Family history of early* cardiovascular disease
  • Family history of dyslipidemia
  • Chronic kidney disease
  • Obesity (BMI ≥ 30 kg/m2)
  • Inflammatory bowel disease
  • HIV infection
  • Erectile dysfunction
  • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
  • Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy

*In men < 55 and in women < 65, first generation.
